JASMYN PALOMBO'S INTERVIEW

JASMYN PALOMBO'S INTERVIEW

"Do NOT be SHY!"

This is how Marco Cella decided to play with words for the new NOTSHY campaign. It reflects the perfect image of the radiant Jasmyn Palombo: her mood, her independence, her character. A free, multicultural and assumed woman, who's the NOTSHY face of the season.

Read and discover her background, her ambitions, her vision of fashion and her feelings about her modeling career.

Introduce us to your background, your dreams and your projects.

I'm 21 and I'm from Hawaï. My dream is to be really successful in modeling so I can work with cool designers and photographers... and so I can have a house on the beach back home. As an artist, I have a lot of projects that are unfinished because I'm still trying to figure out my style, but I really want to accomplish a painting portrait on a massive canvas.

How did you start modeling ?

I got scouted at a Vegan festival back home in Hawaï by a local photographer. I had no idea how to get into modeling, so when she approached me, I took the opportunity to finally try it out.

What have you learned about the fashion industry since the beginning of your career?

I learned that the fashion industry isn't as glamorous as it seems to be. It's not just getting your hair and makeup done and taking cute pictures; there are a lot of adversities and hardships you have to face as a model because it is such a superficial business. Only as of recent, models have been speaking out about mistreatment in the industry and the cutthroat things that happen behind the scenes. You have to deal with people always commenting on your looks and flaws, many rejections just to get on yes, having a designer pull out your looks as you're about to walk on runway, and we're just supposed to be okay with it for some reason. It's tough, but bad things aside, the fashion industry taught me how to be kind with myself and know that my worth isn't decided by others.

You are of Hawaiian origin and you live in NY. Is your multiculturality a strength?

I definitely see my multiculturality as a stregth. I'm always surrouned by many different kind of people all the time, so it's really an eye opener and shows me how different and unique we all are.

Three words to describe you?

Cool, different and compassionate.

What is your dream?

My dream is to travel all over the world, especially places most people haven't been before, like Antartica or Madagascar. I only have one life and I would absolutely regret not seeing different environments this planet has.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? / Any plans for the future?

This is honestly such a hard question because I feel like my life can go in many different directions since I'm still young and have so many opportunities to do whatever I want, but in the future I want to be a food critic as a side job to modeling. My favorite thing to do when traveling is trying many different restaurants and dishes to discover what I like and what I don’t. I’ve tried a lot of different things so far and I’m only 21, so in 10 years I feel like my taste in food will be immaculate.

Your favorite piece in the NOTSHY wardrobe?

I can't choose! I love every piece because they're all warm and soft, but since you're making me... My favorite has to be the zip up jumper.
